We’re thrilled to share that Japeto has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Achievement category at the Medilink Midlands Business Awards 2026 — one of the most respected recognition programmes in the UK healthtech and life sciences community. The shortlisting is recognition for our work building AI chatbots for charities and healthcare organisations, helping them automate routine enquiries, provide 24/7 support, and reduce pressure on staff.

Why We Were Shortlisted: AI Chatbots Built for the Real World

This recognition is rooted in the work we’ve done building Japeto Chat (JChat), which is our AI assistant platform designed specifically for organisations working in healthcare, charity, and education. It’s the kind of platform we wish had existed when we started.

JChat enables charities, NHS services, and health organisations to deploy intelligent, safe, and compliant AI assistants. This happens without needing a technical team to manage them. The platform handles over 3,500 messages per month, and has been adopted across multiple sectors including debt advice, sexual health, and safeguarding.

From a Single Chatbot to a Scalable Healthcare AI Platform

The journey started with Pat — the UK’s first sexual health AI chatbot, built for a charity partner Positive East. According to report to Public Health England, Pat was found to reduce incoming staff email volume by 77% while providing 24/7 anonymous support to users. It’s now live across two NHS trusts.

That experience taught us what healthcare AI really needs: not just intelligence, but safety, compliance, and reliability. We built JChat from the ground up with those principles embedded at every layer.

Key features of the platform include:

  • JShield — our novel message processor integrating over 6 methods of message analysis for accurate intent detection
  • A no-code conversation builder so health professionals can manage their own chatbot content
  • UK-based data storage, DTAC and GDPR compliance
  • A hybrid approach combining structured, pre-approved responses with tightly controlled generative AI — so organisations get flexibility without sacrificing safety

Real Impact, Recognised Beyond the Industry

Our healthcare chatbot work has attracted attention well beyond the Medilink network. In 2024, alongside Positive East, we co-presented a Pat case study to the British HIV Association, winning the Martin Fisher Prize for Best Oral Presentation. Our chatbots also contributed to an NIHR and University of Westminster study on AI in sexual health, with users rating the experience an average of 8.6 out of 10.

We’ve also been named in the Ambitious Essex Tech50 in both 2025 and 2026, and won the CatalyseHer grant — recognition that reflects the quality and ambition behind what we’re building.

Building AI Chatbots for Charities, Healthcare and Education

If you work in the charity, healthcare or education sector and are exploring what AI can do for your organisation, Japeto Chat may be exactly what you’re looking for.

JChat is designed to be deployed in days, not months, with no engineering resource required on your side. We work with organisations to understand their needs, build their conversation flows, and ensure every response meets their standards for safety and accuracy.

We’re particularly experienced with:

  • AI chatbots for sexual health and NHS-adjacent services
  • Safeguarding and advice chatbots for charities
  • Signposting tools
  • AI assistants for educational institutions
